A SIMILAR SENSE OF HUMOR EVEN SUSTAINS A COUPLE IN LOCKDOWN
There are many necessary ingredients for a happy marriage. One clear recipe for success includes humor compatibility.
We're all experiencing stress caused by the global coronavirus pandemic and doing what we can to stay safe. During these troubling times, which include a ban on outside theatrical entertainment, there isn't a whole lot of laughing matter. Having a husband who works to fill that void makes me one of the fortunate.
While I was prepping lunch, my husband approached me with wet hands and a mischievous smile. He innocently questioned whether I sing Happy Birthday while washing my hands. I cavalierly replied, of course...two rounds. While drying his hands, he began to snicker as he cross-examined me by questioning, "But how?"
As I fell for the bait and asked what he meant, he was practically choking on the words as he snorted, "I do too, but I sing to someone else each time to make it more interesting." By now, exhibiting uncontrolled laughter, he added, "This time, I sang to Avner."
The thought of his silly antidote, coupled with the fun that he was having with its delivery, spun me into a big belly laugh. The craziest part is that now, just like when you get a song stuck in your head, I find myself singing happy birthday to Avner.
And, in case you're wondering who Avner is, well, he's just a casual friend. By the way, we have no idea when he celebrates his birthday.
Be well. Stay safe. Keep laughing. It helps.
Wishing my multi-talented husband a happy 45th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2020, and many, many more to ROTFL with me.
