WE HAD A BABY

WE HAD A BABY

B”H Yes, we had a baby this weekend — mazel tov, mazel tov, our sweet baby granddaughter was born in Los Angeles. And we fell in love all over again. See my blog post at sharonmarkcohen.com, The Feeling of Having Grandchildren=The Feeling of Falling in Love, dated April 22, 2019.

A mother’s intuition was never so strong. Not only did I suspect our daughter was pregnant when we picked her up at the airport last spring, but the week before she gave birth, I thought that if she was carrying a girl, which I thought she was, I’m sure the name they chose for her just a few weeks ago would be Stevie.

Funny, I guessed it! After a recent stay at our daughter’s house, scouting through the batch of baby name books we sent them from our bookshelves and concluding that none of the girl’s letter “S” names in the aging books would do, the girl’s name “Stevie” jumped out at me from something I was reading. "That’s it," I called to my husband, who was within earshot, "if the baby is a girl, for sure, they’re naming her Stevie."

My reasoning for “picking her name” was that after anticipating she would be given a name for her paternal grandfather Steven, the article I read highlighted the female lead singer, Stevie Nicks, from Fleetwood Mac fame. (One of our favorite singers and groups). The name Stevie for a girl clicked as, “Just our daughter’s style.”

While we never knew the sex of our children before their births, and neither did our daughter or son-in-law know theirs now, she said as they were driving to the hospital on Friday, they heard Stevie Nicks on the radio and said, “That’s it, it’s definitely a girl.” Rina admitted she did think she was carrying a girl all along. The next day, they found out they had it right! To think, our daughter now also has mother’s intuition!

Stevie’s middle name, Hunter, was a surprise, but we were thrilled that she was given a name in memory of my dear mother-in-law, Hilda. All four of our parents live on in the names given to our precious grandchildren, Solly Ilah, Dizzy Bozeman, and Stevie Hunter.

Stevie Hunter Weil weighed in at 4 lbs., 12 oz., and was born on the 5th wedding anniversary of her Aunt Dena and Uncle Judd, November 12, 2022. What a happy anniversary!

The sheer delight of adding Stevie Hunter to our family tree charts was all mine. We can hardly wait to hold her, kiss her, smell her baby skin, and count her fingers and toes. And, of course, spoil her! Isn’t that the job of the grandparents?
