IT'S EASIER TO COMPLEMENT WITH AN "E" THAN AN "I"

It’s easier to complement with an “e” than with an “i.” When discussing people’s tendency not to compliment but to readily criticize, my husband prophetically espoused, "Yes, it’s easier to complement.”
The subject originally arose when we were at a religious service the morning of an out-of-state wedding we were attending. It was the only time we were in the well-attended sanctuary in Illinois. After one of the congregants in the room stood up to speak, another person raised his hand to add to the discussion, first saying, “I want to complement your analysis.”
The presenter asked him whether he was using "complement" with an "e" or "compliment" with an "i." He quickly responded that it was with an "e." Touché! That was a quick-witted and insightful exchange that we will always remember, along with the laughter it sparked.
