MARCH 2023 COUSINS REUNION IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Has it been a year? Wow! Almost one year and so much has happened since the Friedman reunion 2023 in Washington, D.C. Due to one cousin having a personal connection, we had a private docent tour of the newly renovated Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian where the photo of our group was shot.
On that glorious weekend in the nation’s capital, my husband and I were seated with a group of various cousins at dinner; those who opted for special dietary provisions. That evening we were seated with Cousin Lindsay, my second cousin once removed.
All at the table in different age brackets and with various dietary restrictions, we sat giddily getting to know one another. While we’ve met at other reunions over the years, we live so geographically far apart, that it takes an arrangement like we had at the reunion to get past the cordial hellos.
What hadn’t come to pass yet, was the fact that our artist cousin was picked up by Hallmark to paint the ornaments for a movie. You see, a lot can happen in a year.
Lindsay Field, great-granddaughter of Gus Friedman, my maternal grandfather Harry’s brother, is pictured in the back row of the photo taken at Air & Space in March 2023. There, Lindsay, the acclaimed artist, who now has an IMDb page, is wearing a hat and a broad smile.
An online search shows a mini bio, a video of Lindsay in her studio, and pictures of the ornaments she made for the Hallmark 2023 A Heidelberg Holiday movie.
Mini Bio
Lindsay B Field is a glass artist from Austin, Texas. She has been working with glass since 2003 and mainly sells her work at art shows around Texas and surrounding states. She mainly works with sheets of colored glass that she cuts and layers on top of each other and then fuses them together in a kiln to create her unique, modern and retro design jewelry. She also creates colorful hand-blown glass ornaments, which are now featured in the movie, A Heidelberg Holiday (2023).

The D.C. reunion on my mother’s side started a run of fun cousin meetings in 2023, which I’ll be writing about in future blog posts. I won’t list them here, I’ll keep you coming back to read my posts.
Who’s planning the next get-together so that we can get to know our various cousins around the world? We want to be there.
You ask, why not me? I made the huge effort to plan one here in New Jersey but no one would come—it was scheduled for May 2020. The Covid pandemic even caused the temporary, yet extended, closing of The Paper Mill, the award-winning theatre where we had purchased tickets for the group. Looking forward to the next Friedman adventure, wherever it takes place, and more.
As promised, enjoy another sample of the pages from my memory book, (See The Things That Stick in People’s Minds, dated February 6, 2024, at sharonmarkcohen.com). Marty’s grandfather Gus Friedman and my grandfather Harry Friedman were brothers. Seven other families from his branch of our tree sent heartwarming pieces included in my memory book.
Just one more from my memory book for now. Laura, Lindsay’s older sister, is from the next generation in our Friedman family, and since their twins were infants they are always with Laura and Gerald at the reunions. We adore the precocious little ones and love watching them grow. It feels so rewarding to keep all our extended family members abreast of the family tree, especially those from the “next” generation and beyond.
