MY FAVORITE COLOR IS RED
My husband and I were on an evening walk (August 30, 2023) when I suddenly said, “Don’t move.” There sat a beautiful red Cardinal on a wooden post. The pretty bird turned its head to me as if to say, “Snap my picture, I’m waiting.”
Many people know that red is my favorite color because I talk about it frequently. Our eldest granddaughter is four, and guess what her favorite color is? You guessed it, red. When she lived nearby and often spent time at our house, she heard Grandma mention that often enough.
But why has red always been my favorite color? My cousin Shari thinks red is her favorite color because her mother’s grandaunt carried a red purse. I can’t say if I also got my love for red from my aunt’s grandaunt Sarah Nalebuff, but the sweet lady was a weekly guest at my parent’s home throughout my childhood and may have influenced my taste in the bright color.
My brother-in-law Jeffrey would have been 83 (August 30, 1940-October 12, 2003). Jeffrey's favorite color was green because it was the color of money, he insisted with a smile. I sent an email to his children and mine, simply with the subject: “Thinking of your dad/Uncle Jeffrey on his birthday.”
In the email, I mentioned how I remembered Jeffrey's favorite color to be green. As the anniversary of his passing on the Hebrew calendar approached this week, we honored his memory by lighting a candle and reminiscing about the good times we shared with him.
What’s your favorite color? Why? Your answers may generate cherished memories.
