KINDNESS PERSONIFIED

With renovations underway outside a nearby homeowner’s stately house, it was a treat to walk by and watch the well-designed improvements steadily move along to completion. On regular walks around the neighborhood, my husband and I enjoy seeing many unique additions that enrich the curb appeal of various houses.

Often, we stop along our long walks to take a break. Usually, that’s at the park or sitting on a bench alongside a commercial building. Last fall, seeing a sign outside a private home made me smile, and I couldn’t wait to tell my husband, who was not walking with me on that particular day.

The strategically placed sign shows the residential house number and street name and stands by an aesthetically pleasing newly constructed low gray stone wall. Under the address, the placard reads, “A place to sit and rest.”

We may do just that. If and when we do, we’ll think about the gift of the thoughtful homeowners, hoping that their kind ways spread rapidly and exponentially. With that pleasant thought in mind, I could hear Sam Cooke singing, “What a wonderful world this would be.”
